Yerevan attractions

The Cascade Complex & Cafesjian Center for the Arts

Tsitsernakaberd (Armenian Genocide Memorial & Museum)

The Cascade Complex & Cafesjian Center for the Arts

A massive limestone staircase connecting the city center to the upper residential areas. It is an open-air modern art museum, featuring unique sculptures and fountains. The interior houses the Cafesjian Center for the Arts.  It offers the best panoramic view of Yerevan and the majestic Mount Ararat (on a clear day). Taking the escalators inside the lower section allows for a warm and quick ascent in winter.

Republic Square (Hanrapetutyan Hraparak)

Tsitsernakaberd (Armenian Genocide Memorial & Museum)

The Cascade Complex & Cafesjian Center for the Arts

The vibrant heart of Yerevan, famous for its distinctive pink and white tufa stone buildings, which house the Government House, History Museum, and Marriott Hotel.  It's the central hub for walking, dining, and people-watching. In the evenings, the Singing Fountains (if operational in winter, though less likely) are a major draw.

Tsitsernakaberd (Armenian Genocide Memorial & Museum)

Tsitsernakaberd (Armenian Genocide Memorial & Museum)

Tsitsernakaberd (Armenian Genocide Memorial & Museum)

A solemn and powerful memorial complex dedicated to the victims of the 1915 Armenian Genocide. The monument features an eternal flame and a large, modern museum built into the hillside. A crucial visit for understanding modern Armenian identity, history, and resilience. The museum is comprehensive and deeply moving.

Khor Virap Monastery

Khor Virap Monastery

Tsitsernakaberd (Armenian Genocide Memorial & Museum)

An ancient monastery, famous as the site where Gregory the Illuminator (who introduced Christianity to Armenia) was imprisoned for 13 years. It offers the most iconic, cinematic, and unobstructed view of Mount Ararat across the Turkish border. The short drive makes it an ideal morning trip.

Geghard Monastery

Khor Virap Monastery

Geghard Monastery

A medieval monastery complex partially carved right out of the adjacent mountain, showcasing astonishing rock-cut architecture and incredible acoustics. It is an architectural marvel and a significant spiritual site. The natural temperature regulation of the rock-cut chapels makes it a unique experience, regardless of the winter weather outside.

Garni Temple

Khor Virap Monastery

Geghard Monastery

The sole standing Hellenic-era columned structure in Armenia and the Caucasus, dating back to the 1st century AD. It was dedicated to the pagan sun god, Mihr. Located near Geghard (often combined in one trip), this site offers a dramatic cliff-side setting and a striking contrast between Armenia's pre-Christian past and its later embrace of Christianity.
